Breast reduction surgery, or in other words reduction mammoplasty, can be performed for medical reasons as well as aesthetic concerns. The operation is usually performed for reasons such as sagging, not looking beautiful, not being symmetrical, not being able to find clothes, due to the fact that the breasts are too large. Medical reasons, on the other hand, are performed to relieve shoulder, neck and back pains due to the size and therefore weight of the breasts or to prevent hunchback.
In addition to being a plastic surgery, breast reduction surgery is a surgery with a high level of satisfaction with the functional benefits it adds to the patient. In addition to having more aesthetically pleasing breasts, relief from back and neck pain also relieves patients.
How long does breast reduction surgery take?
Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Although the operation varies according to the breast volume, it takes 3-4 hours on average. Patients stay in the hospital for 1 day.
Before Breast Reduction Surgery
We want all our patients to have breast ultrasound and mammography before the operation. Since breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, evaluation with general surgery is necessary in the presence of a possible mass.
It is necessary to stop blood thinners such as aspirin and green tea 10 days before the surgery.
In the presence of diabetes, internal medicine consultation is requested and surgery is performed while under regulation.
Smoking should be avoided as in all surgeries.
Surgery Day
We draw while standing on the breast on the day of surgery. This drawing is very important for surgery. The surgery is performed on these drawings. The shape of the breast changes in standing and lying positions. Since the operation is performed lying down, the standing breast position is very important for us. Also, many women have asymmetry in their breasts, which I use during surgery to reduce this asymmetry and to remove more tissue from the larger breast.
The surgery takes 2-3 hours depending on the technique to be used. I recommend that my patients stay in the hospital on the day of the operation. Although it is not a very painful procedure, we give you painkillers throughout the day and relax you. If we put a drain on the day after the surgery, we remove these drains and discharge our patients.
